of Seattle 2021 Solidarity Budget 5 Demands. Seattle is located on the land of the Coast Salish Peoples, specifically the Duwamish, and Chairwomen Cecila Hassan is a partner of the Solidarity Budget demands.


1. Currently SPD is defunded 18 out of 50% community demand. ​
Defund roughly $75 million in Defunding for 2021 Budget. $35 million in cuts (35 layoffs - only layoffs, but money won’t be captured unless the layoffs actually happen) $40 million in transfers by moving functions of SPD employees to other city departments. For example, 911 civilian operators. ​

A total of $30 million dollars as need reallocated for the Participatory Budgeting process. 
2. Plan of Action to redistribute funds is Participatory Budgeting guided by the Black Brilliance Research Project. 

3. Prioritizing Affordable Housing For All
$800,000 set aside for community Tiny House Villages

$655,000 to maintain indoor SHARE shelters

$80,000 to support outreach to vehicle residents

Additional one time investment of $1 million to support expanded outreach team. Investment of 7 neighborhood outreach workers. 

$30 million for the strategic Investment Fund has been restored!  Funds are designated to purchase land for community-driven development projects in neighborhoods with a high risk of gentrification and displacement.

Collectively resorted $5.2 million for the Georgetown to South Park Trail. Additional funds restored for Route 7 Rapid Ride  project, bike lanes in South Seattle, Route 44, and sidewalk projects in Beacon Hill.

5. A Seattle Green New Deal
Funds to create the Green New Deal Advisor Position. Funding to support electrification and weatherization, the crosswalk for the Duwamish Longhouse, and cultural signage for Licton Springs, a Duwamish sacred site. ​

  3. Upcoming: Seattle City Council will be hearing proposals to make two key changes to the Seattle Municipal Code to slow prosecution of behavior related to living in poverty, drug use, or struggling with mental health. This consideration would be put into the code and would work to stop the criminalization of poverty.
